Disclosure: this page contains exchange invitation links and codes. If you sign up through them, the exchange may pay Jason Finance a referral commission. It does not raise the fees you pay; the invitation fee discount is set by the exchange. Our ratings follow the published methodology, where the invitation discount counts only toward the fees item.

I have a WEEX account but have not used it long-term. This article is what I found by checking WEEX’s official pages, regulators’ notices and on-chain data, not a review based on experience. Independent reviews of WEEX in Traditional Chinese are rare, and most of what can be found is the exchange’s own press releases, so every item below has a source, and where I could not find something I say so.

The short version: WEEX was founded in 2018 and says it has 6.2 million users. It publishes a proof of reserves verified with a Merkle tree, and the address of its 1,000 BTC protection fund is public, holding about 1,001 BTC on-chain on 9 October 2026; I also found no record of its custody wallets being hacked. But there are clear gaps in transparency: WEEX does not disclose its operating entity or licences, its proof of reserves names no third-party auditor, and it has a warning from the Ontario Securities Commission in Canada and cease orders from two US states. Regular users pay 0.1% on spot.

This article is my own research summary. It is not investment, tax or legal advice. Fees, rates, licences and service regions can change; every figure here is dated, so check WEEX’s official pages before you act. Crypto prices are volatile, and keeping assets on an exchange carries the risk of the exchange itself.

WEEX key factsData checked: 2026-10-08

What kind of exchange WEEX is

Item Details
Founded 2018
Operating entity The official terms of use only say “the Company”, with no company name or place of registration; the US state orders name WEEX International Exchange LTD
Named executives The website lists only Chief Operating Officer Andrew Weiner, with no founder or CEO
Users 6.2 million users in more than 150 countries and a team of over 1,000, according to WEEX
Platform token WXT; holdings can be used to reach VIP tiers
Scale CoinGecko trust score 8/10, trust rank #21 (9 October 2026)
Chinese interface Traditional Chinese website and app; the Chinese name is 支漱

The user and team figures come from WEEX’s About Us page, which also says WEEX was LALIGA’s regional partner in Hong Kong and Taiwan from 1 January to 31 July 2026. The rank is same-day data from CoinGecko; CoinGecko lists WEEX’s country as Singapore, but Singapore is a restricted region in WEEX’s terms of use.

WEEX’s main focus is futures trading. This article covers only safety, fees, deposits and withdrawals, and earn; it does not discuss futures, leverage or copy trading.

Is WEEX safe?

Proof of reserves: Merkle tree verification, no third-party auditor named

A proof of reserves compares what an exchange holds in its wallets with the total of all user balances. A ratio of 100% or more means that at the time of the snapshot the exchange held enough coins to cover every user’s balance.

The WEEX proof of reserves page lists platform holdings, user holdings and reserve ratios for USDT, USDC, BTC, ETH and other assets, and says the snapshot is updated regularly. There are two ways to verify:

  • Verify it yourself: log in, download your own balance data, and use the verification program WEEX published on GitHub to check that you are included in the Merkle tree. The program was uploaded in October 2025 and only verifies the Merkle tree and hashes; it has no zero-knowledge proofs such as zk-SNARK or zk-STARK.
  • Third-party data: the page links to WEEX’s page on CoinMarketCap.

I saw no accounting firm or security company named on the page as the verifier. The ratios load live only when the page is opened, and I do not yet have a snapshot I can date.

A proof of reserves is a snapshot at one point in time, not a full financial audit, and it cannot prove whether the exchange has other liabilities. For how different exchanges handle it, see the proof of reserves guide.

The 1,000 BTC protection fund: a public address, but not insurance

WEEX’s protection fund page says it has set aside 1,000 BTC to compensate losses not caused by the user, and the wallet address is public. When I checked this address on mempool.space on 9 October 2026, the balance was about 1,001 BTC.

Conditions to note:

  • The fund is financed by WEEX itself, not third-party insurance, and WEEX decides whether to pay.
  • Trading losses are not compensated; scams, being lured into a transfer, or transfers you authorise by mistake are not covered either.
  • Claims must be emailed to support@weex.com within 30 days of the incident.

The March 2025 ETH/USDT matching fault and compensation

This is the main incident I found at WEEX. It was caused by a system problem, not a hack:

Time Details
5 March 2025, 00:00 to 01:08 Order matching on the ETH/USDT pair was delayed and the candlestick chart was abnormal. WEEX said too many trading pairs were deployed on the same node, and memory load spiked during funding rate settlement (official announcement)
Same day WEEX promised 100% compensation and set aside 10 million USDT from the protection fund as a compensation reserve
Same day, 11:00 (UTC+8) 1,821 claims received; 1,807 users compensated with a total of 2,019,009 USDT (second progress update)
28 March 2025 A U.Today report quoting WEEX said 5,022 users were compensated in the end, about 6.12 million USDT in total (U.Today)

The final total is WEEX’s own figure and has not been checked by a third party. The two official announcements also give different time zones: the first says UTC, the second UTC+8.

Apart from this, I found no reports of WEEX custody wallets being hacked or withdrawals being suspended; but independent coverage of WEEX is thin to begin with, so not finding something does not mean it never happened.

Account security settings

According to WEEX’s account security guide, you can set up 2FA with an authenticator app (WEEX advises against relying on SMS alone), a withdrawal address allowlist, an anti-phishing code, and limits on API keys’ withdrawal permissions with IP binding. WEEX also says user assets are kept separate from operating funds, with hot and cold wallets separated and multi-signature in use.

Regulatory record, warnings and licences

Regulators’ warnings and orders

The table lists the regulatory records I found on 9 October 2026 that name WEEX or a name containing WEEX, each with the regulator’s own page:

Date Authority / region Details Source
8 June 2023 Ontario Securities Commission (OSC), Canada Investor warning: weex.com is not registered in Ontario to engage in the business of trading in securities. The warning is also included in the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) cross-border alert network OSC
17 July 2023 Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Thailand Investor alert: name “Weex”, type unlicensed digital asset business; the website listed is weex.baaqx.com, not weex.com Thai SEC
18 September 2023 British Columbia Securities Commission (BCSC), Canada Investment caution list: “WEEX.Pro, Inc.” is not registered in British Columbia; the domains listed are weexproit.com, weexpror.com, weediux.com, weexproe.com and weexproex.com, not weex.com BCSC
11 December 2024 Arkansas Securities Department, US Cease order (No. C-24-0059-24-OR01): WEEX International Exchange LTD must stop all money transmission in Arkansas until it is licensed Arkansas Securities Department
27 March 2025 Georgia Department of Banking and Finance, US Cease and desist order took effect: WEEX International Exchange LTD ran a virtual currency trading platform and engaged in money transmission in Georgia without a licence Georgia Department of Banking and Finance
  • The two US state orders concern unlicensed money transmission and have nothing to do with stolen user assets. The United States is also currently a restricted region for WEEX.
  • The Thai SEC and BCSC records both list domains other than weex.com, and I found nothing on how they relate to WEEX. There are many sites with similar names, so check the address before signing up.
  • I found no court judgment, fine or sanctions-related report naming WEEX.

Lists checked where WEEX was not found

On 9 October 2026 I searched these lists for WEEX and found no matching record:

List Result
Hong Kong SFC alert list (including suspicious virtual asset trading platforms) No WEEX
Japan FSA list of unregistered crypto asset exchange businesses (updated September 2026) No WEEX
Monetary Authority of Singapore investor alert list No WEEX
Securities Commission Malaysia investor alert list No WEEX

Not being on a list does not mean holding a local licence. Hong Kong and Singapore are already restricted regions for WEEX.

Not confirmed on official pages: the UK FCA warning list site blocked my searches; search results for EU national lists such as France’s AMF, Belgium’s FSMA, Italy’s CONSOB and Spain’s CNMV load only in a browser, and I could not read them; the search results also showed a January 2026 “Weex Coin” warning from the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA), which I did not open to check. I will add these once checked.

Licences: none disclosed, none found in registers

I could not find any financial licence or regulator named in WEEX’s terms of use or official pages, and found no formal licence that can be checked in a regulator’s register. This is very different from OKX and Bybit, which publicly list their Dubai VARA and EU MiCA licences.

Some English-language review sites say WEEX is registered as a money services business (MSB) with FinCEN in the US and FINTRAC in Canada. Even if true, an MSB is only an anti-money-laundering registration, not an operating licence for an exchange; and the US and Canada are already restricted regions for WEEX. I have not yet confirmed WEEX’s registration in either register.

Restricted regions

According to Article 1.1 of the terms of use updated on 7 July 2026, WEEX does not serve users in:

Canada, South Korea, the United States and its territories, mainland China, Hong Kong, Singapore, the UAE, North Korea, Cuba, Iran, Sudan, Belarus, Russia and Russian-controlled regions of Ukraine, Somalia, Myanmar and Venezuela. The terms also reserve the right to restrict other regions.

How to sign up for WEEX

Create an account with an email address or phone number, enter the invitation code in the invitation code field, then complete identity verification (KYC). Among international exchanges, WEEX is one with less public information, so read the regulatory record above and make sure you are not in a restricted region before signing up.

WEEX trading fees: 0.1% spot, 0.02% maker and 0.08% taker on futures

From WEEX’s official VIP tier guide (updated September 2026). Meeting any one threshold in the table moves you up a tier:

Tier 30-day spot volume WXT held 5-day average assets Spot maker Spot taker Futures maker Futures taker
VIP 0 none none none 0.100% 0.100% 0.020% 0.080%
VIP 1 500,000 USDT 5,000 WXT 10,000 USDT 0.080% 0.090% 0.020% 0.075%
VIP 2 1 million USDT 50,000 WXT 30,000 USDT 0.070% 0.080% 0.018% 0.060%
VIP 3 2 million USDT 250,000 WXT 50,000 USDT 0.050% 0.060% 0.018% 0.055%
VIP 4 5 million USDT 500,000 WXT 100,000 USDT 0.040% 0.050% 0.016% 0.050%
  • 30-day futures volume also counts; the threshold for VIP 1 is 1 million USDT.
  • VIP tiers are recalculated daily at 02:00 (UTC+8); for the higher tiers VIP 5 to VIP 8, see the official guide.
  • The official guide describes WXT as a way to reach VIP tiers and mentions no separate fee discount for holding WXT.
  • A maker order waits on the order book for someone else to fill it; a taker order fills against an existing order.
  • For general-user fees at other international exchanges, see the international exchange fee comparison.

In money terms: a regular user buying 1,000 USDT of BTC on spot pays 0.1% whether as maker or taker, a fee of 1 USDT. At VIP 0 the spot maker and taker rates are the same, so placing a limit order is no cheaper.

For how invitation code fee discounts are calculated and a summary of each exchange’s rate, see the exchange fee discount guide.

Depositing and withdrawing USDT on-chain

On WEEX’s deposit page, choose USDT and a network, copy the address, and withdraw from the sending side. Both sides must use the same network, or the funds may not be recoverable.

USDT networks listed by WEEX’s official public API on 9 October 2026, all open for deposits and withdrawals, each with a minimum deposit of 0.1 USDT:

Network Withdrawal fee Minimum withdrawal
Tron (TRC20) 1.5 USDT 10 USDT
Ethereum (ERC20) 0.5 USDT 20 USDT
BNB Smart Chain (BEP20) 0.5 USDT 5 USDT
Solana 0.5 USDT 10 USDT
Arbitrum One 0.15 USDT 4 USDT
Aptos 0.12 USDT 5 USDT
Polygon PoS 0.1 USDT 5 USDT
Avalanche C-Chain 0.1 USDT 10 USDT
The Open Network (TON) 0.1 USDT 10 USDT
Plasma 0.015 USDT 5 USDT
Optimism 0.015 USDT 10 USDT
  • TRC20 is the most expensive network in this table, while Plasma and Optimism cost less than 0.02 USDT to withdraw, as long as the receiving exchange or wallet supports the same network.
  • TON deposits need a memo (Memo/Tag); without it the deposit may not arrive.
  • Withdrawal fees are adjusted from time to time; the withdrawal page shows the current fee.

If a transfer is confirmed on-chain but the exchange has not credited it, see what to check in USDT deposit delayed: what to do.

WEEX earn: Auto Earn

WEEX launched Auto Earn on 1 October 2025. Once it is on, idle USDT in your account earns interest automatically, with no separate subscription.

  • What earns interest: the spot account (available and frozen), the funding account (available and frozen), plus the available balance of the futures account (excluding bonuses).
  • Rates (from the launch announcement): regular users get 13% APR on up to 200 USDT and 3.5% APR from 200 to 100,000 USDT; new users who turn it on within 7 days of verification get 100% APR on up to 100 USDT, then the same 3.5%. Interest is capped at 100,000 USDT.
  • Payout: the previous day’s earnings are paid at 12:00 (UTC+0) the next day.
  • Redemption: no lock-up; any amount transferred out or withdrawn stops earning immediately.
  • Limits: WEEX recommends completing identity verification before turning it on, and accounts judged high-risk cannot use it; rates follow the market and may change at any time.

The official guide does not say where the interest comes from, or whether WEEX takes a cut of it. The rates above are from the October 2025 announcement; check the app for current rates.

USDT flexible earn rates at several exchanges are updated daily in the USDT earn rate comparison. For what extra risk idle USDT in exchange earn products carries compared with short-term Treasury ETFs and Aave lending, see Where to park idle USD and USDT.

Pros and cons: who WEEX suits

Details
Pros The 1,000 BTC protection fund address is public and can be checked on-chain; Merkle tree proof of reserves with an open-source verifier; compensation started the same day as the 2025 matching fault; USDT supports low-fee networks such as BEP20, Plasma and Optimism; Auto Earn lets idle USDT earn interest without subscribing
Cons No operating entity or licences disclosed, and no formal licence found in registers; a warning in Ontario, Canada and cease orders from Arkansas and Georgia in the US; the proof of reserves names no third-party auditor and has no zero-knowledge proofs; spot maker is no cheaper than taker; little independent coverage, so much of the information comes only from WEEX itself
Suits People outside the restricted regions who understand the risks of a smaller exchange and keep only small amounts on it
Does not suit People who put weight on regulation and licences, or who want to keep most of their assets on an exchange long-term

If you are still comparing exchanges, start with how to choose a crypto exchange, then compare with a larger exchange with more public information, such as the OKX review. More exchange guides are on the crypto topic page.

FAQ

Is WEEX safe?

WEEX publishes a proof of reserves verified with a Merkle tree and keeps a 1,000 BTC protection fund; on 9 October 2026 the fund's address held about 1,001 BTC on-chain. But its proof of reserves names no third-party accountant or auditor, WEEX does not disclose its operating entity or licences, and it has a warning from the Ontario Securities Commission in Canada and cease orders from the US states of Arkansas and Georgia. I found no record of its custody wallets being hacked.

Does WEEX have a licence?

I could not find any financial licence in WEEX's terms of use or official pages, and found no formal licence that can be checked in a regulator's register. The US FinCEN and Canadian FINTRAC MSB entries mentioned by third-party reviews are registrations, not operating licences, and I have not yet checked them one by one in the registers.

Which regulators have warned about WEEX?

The Ontario Securities Commission in Canada issued a warning about weex.com on 8 June 2023, saying it was not registered in Ontario. The US state of Arkansas on 11 December 2024 and Georgia on 27 March 2025 both issued cease orders against WEEX International Exchange LTD for unlicensed money transmission. Thailand's Securities and Exchange Commission also issued a warning under the name Weex on 17 July 2023, but the website it lists is weex.baaqx.com, not weex.com.

Is the WEEX 1,000 BTC protection fund insurance?

No. WEEX says the fund is financed by WEEX itself and compensates losses not caused by the user; trading losses, scams and transfers you authorise by mistake are not covered, and claims must be emailed to support within 30 days of the incident.

What are WEEX's trading fees?

According to the official VIP page (updated September 2026), regular users (VIP 0) pay 0.1% maker and taker on spot, and 0.02% maker and 0.08% taker on futures. Meeting any one threshold, 30-day volume, WXT held or average assets, moves you up a VIP tier.

Where can't WEEX be used?

According to the terms of use updated on 7 July 2026, users in Canada, South Korea, the United States and its territories, mainland China, Hong Kong, Singapore, the UAE, North Korea, Cuba, Iran, Sudan, Belarus, Russia and Russian-controlled regions of Ukraine, Somalia, Myanmar and Venezuela cannot use it.

Can I deposit USDT to WEEX on BSC (BEP20)?

Yes. On 9 October 2026 the USDT networks listed by WEEX's official public API included BNB Smart Chain (BEP20), open for both deposits and withdrawals, with a withdrawal fee of 0.5 USDT.
