Bitfinex dropped maker and taker fees on its main trading products on 17 December 2025. If you hold USDT and want US dollars, selling on the Bitfinex USDT/USD spot market (Bitfinex USDT to USD) costs nothing at the trading step, and because USDT/USD sometimes trades above 1, you may get slightly more dollars than you sold in USDT.

The short answer: with trading fees at zero, three costs remain: the fill price (the quote and the order book depth), the network fee for moving USDT in, and the withdrawal fee when you send dollars out. The 1.0012 on screen is the last trade, so for a large sale you need to check whether the bids are deep enough. USDT/USD can also trade below 1, so you will not always come out ahead.

This article is my personal experience and research, not investment, tax or legal advice. Fees, prices and service regions can change. All figures are as of the dates shown, so check Bitfinex’s official pages before acting. USDT carries issuer and depeg risk, and assets held on an exchange carry the risk of the exchange itself.

Which trades the Bitfinex zero-fee policy covers

According to the Bitfinex zero fees Q&A and its fee article, maker and taker fees have been 0% on the following since 17 December 2025:

  • Spot and margin trading
  • Derivatives trading
  • Securities trading on Bitfinex Securities
  • OTC trading through Bitfinex

Bitfinex says this applies to every customer who meets the usual eligibility rules, with no trading volume, UNUS SED LEO holding or account tier requirement, and to every trading pair in those products.

For USDT/USD spot:

Order type Role Trading fee
Limit sell that does not fill immediately Maker 0%
Market sell that fills against existing bids Taker 0%
Limit sell priced so it fills against a bid immediately Taker 0%

Fees that still apply

The zero-fee policy covers maker and taker trading fees only. From the official fee article (checked 8 October 2026):

Item Fee
Crypto deposit Free
Crypto withdrawal Varies by coin and network; see the withdrawal page or the fees page
Fiat deposit (bank wire) 0.1%, minimum 60 USD/EUR
Fiat withdrawal (bank wire) 0.1%, minimum 100 USD/EUR
Fiat withdrawal (express wire) 1%, minimum 125 USD/EUR
Lending (Margin Funding) 15% of interest income, 18% for hidden offers
USD deposit or withdrawal via OpenPayd 0.1%, minimum 30 USD; at least 10,000 USD per transfer; Full verification required

Your bank must be in a supported location, and banks in Taiwan cannot wire deposits directly. Bitfinex’s OpenPayd guide says wire eligibility depends on both the account holder’s residency and the bank’s location, the bank must be in an approved jurisdiction, and the current list is on the deposit page after you log in. A Bitfinex notice to users in Taiwan says that, to comply with Taiwanese rules, it does not accept wire deposits sent directly from banks in Taiwan, including Taiwan branches of foreign banks. USD wires through OpenPayd go by SWIFT, and Bitfinex says they are usually processed within 24 hours on business days.

Also, USDT deposits, withdrawals and trading require Basic Plus verification or higher, and some jurisdictions are excluded (official article).

What a USDT/USD price of 1.0012 means

USDT/USD is the price of USDT in US dollars. A price of 1.0012 means the last trade was 1 USDT for 1.0012 dollars. If the whole order filled at that price:

USDT sold Price Dollars received Extra over 1:1
1,000 1.0012 1,001.20 1.20
10,000 1.0012 10,012.00 12.00
100,000 1.0012 100,120.00 120.00

For large sales, look at bid depth, not the last price

The last price is the most visible number on screen, but a market sell of 100,000 USDT will not necessarily fill entirely at that price. Once the highest bids are used up, the rest of the order fills against the next, lower bids. That is slippage.

Using Bitfinex’s public USDT/USD order book at 05:12 (UTC+8) on 8 October 2026, a market sell would have filled like this:

USDT sold Dollars received Average price
10,000 10,011.40 1.00114
100,000 100,110.40 1.001104
1,000,000 1,001,030.86 1.001031

The last price was 1.0012, but there were not enough bids at the top level, so 100,000 USDT averaged about 1.0011, roughly 10 dollars less than the 1.0012 calculation. The more you sell, the lower the average.

So for a large conversion, the number that matters is the average fill price of the whole order. To avoid slippage, use a limit order with the lowest price you will accept. It may fill more slowly, but never below that price.

At what price does USDT buy more dollars

The USDT/USD price is set by the market, and trading above 1 is not a fixed premium. Selling above 1.0000 gives you more dollars than the USDT you sold; selling below 1.0000 gives you fewer. The difference is simple: for every 10,000 USDT, each 0.0001 in price is 1 dollar.

Price when selling 10,000 USDT gives 100,000 USDT gives
0.9995 9,995 USD 99,950 USD
1.0000 10,000 USD 100,000 USD
1.0005 10,005 USD 100,050 USD
1.0010 10,010 USD 100,100 USD
1.0012 10,012 USD 100,120 USD

This is the Bitfinex USDT/USD 6-hour chart from July 2026 to 7 October 2026:

Bitfinex USDt/USD 6-hour candlestick chart, July to 7 October 2026. The price stays mostly between 0.9995 and 1.0010, spikes to about 1.0038 around 10 September, drops to about 0.997 the next day, and closes at 1.0012 on 7 October Bitfinex USDT/USD 6-hour candles, captured 7 October 2026 (Chinese interface), chart by TradingView

Closing prices of Bitfinex’s public 6-hour candles from 8 July to 7 October 2026 (368 candles):

Close Share
1.0000 or higher 72.8%
1.0005 or higher 33.7%
1.0010 or higher 7.3%
1.0012 or higher 0.8%
Below 1.0000 27.2%

Over these three months, the high was 1.0038 on 10 September and the low was 0.99702 the next day, 11 September. Both moved back near 1 quickly. The 1.0012 on 7 October was on the high side for the period. This is past distribution, not a guide to future prices.

If you want to sell only at a certain price, place a limit sell, for example at 1.0010. It fills only if the price gets there and otherwise stays open. The cost is that you may wait a long time, and the USDT in the order cannot be used for anything else meanwhile.

How to move USDT into Bitfinex

Choose a network both sides support

Bitfinex supports USDT on Ethereum, Tron, Solana, Avalanche, TON, Aptos and other chains (full official list). Two things to watch:

  • Native USDT only. Bridged USDT such as USDT.e is not supported, and funds sent by mistake may not be recoverable.
  • The sender and Bitfinex must use the same network. I sent from OKX on Solana; in October 2026 the OKX withdrawal fee for USDT on Solana was 0.33 USDT.

One more point for Solana: Bitfinex upgraded its Solana token (SPL) support on 25 November 2022, and deposit addresses created before the upgrade must not be used. Funds sent to an old address may be lost (official article). Copy the address from the deposit page each time instead of reusing a saved one.

How long a deposit takes

Bitfinex does not promise a fixed crediting time. A deposit is credited after the required number of blockchain confirmations, which is shown on each coin’s deposit page and varies with verification level; accounts verified above Intermediate need fewer confirmations (official article).

When I send USDT to Bitfinex on Solana, the pending deposit normally shows up on the deposit page quickly, but delays happen. I hit a stuck Solana deposit in October 2026; what happened and what to do are in USDT deposit delayed: what to do. For a large amount, send a small test first and send the rest after it is credited.

Steps for Bitfinex USDT to USD

  1. On the Bitfinex deposit page, choose Tether (USDT) and the network, and copy the address currently shown.
  2. On the sending side, choose the same network and paste the address. For a large amount, send a small test first.
  3. Wait for Bitfinex to credit the deposit.
  4. Open the USDT/USD spot market and check the bid depth, not only the last price.
  5. Sell with a market order, or place a limit order at the lowest price you accept. The trading fee is 0%.
  6. If you wire the dollars to a bank, add the withdrawal fee: 0.1% with a 100-dollar minimum for a standard wire, plus your bank’s charges.

If you do not need to withdraw the dollars right away, both USD and USDT can be lent on Bitfinex for interest. For the returns and risks compared with Treasury ETFs and Aave, see Where to park idle USD and USDT.

Three things to keep in mind

Common assumption In practice
Maker and taker are 0%, so converting is free No trading fee, but there is slippage, the network fee to move USDT in and the fiat withdrawal fee
At 1.0012, 100,000 USDT gives 100,120 dollars It depends on bid depth; the average fill of the whole order is what counts
USDT/USD is always above 1 About 27% of 6-hour closes over three months were below 1; the price moves

Bitfinex does not publish reserve ratios regularly; it has only posted a list of wallet addresses on GitHub. What that means is covered in the proof of reserves guide.

FAQ

Are Bitfinex trading fees 0%?

Yes. Since 17 December 2025, Bitfinex charges no maker or taker fees on spot, margin, derivatives, securities and OTC trading, with no volume, LEO holding or account tier requirement. Other fees, such as the 15% fee on lending income and withdrawal fees, still apply.

What does a USDT/USD price of 1.0012 mean?

The last trade was 1 USDT for 1.0012 US dollars. Selling 10,000 USDT would in theory give 10,012 dollars, but a large sell works its way down the bids, so the average fill is usually a little below the last price on screen.

Does selling USDT on Bitfinex always give more than 1 dollar?

No. You only get more dollars when you sell above 1.0000. From 8 July to 7 October 2026, 72.8% of Bitfinex USDT/USD 6-hour closes were at or above 1.0000 and 27.2% were below it. The high was 1.0038 and the low 0.99702.

Does Bitfinex charge for USDT deposits?

Bitfinex charges nothing for crypto deposits, but the sending exchange or wallet charges its own withdrawal fee. USDT deposits, withdrawals and trading require Basic Plus verification or higher.

How much does it cost to wire dollars from Bitfinex to a bank?

According to Bitfinex, a standard bank wire withdrawal costs 0.1% with a minimum of 100 dollars, and an express wire costs 1% with a minimum of 125 dollars. Bank charges on the receiving side are extra.
