When you keep USDT on an exchange ready for the next trade, can it earn interest and still be available to trade at any time? Every major exchange offers some form of auto earn, but the products have similar names and work very differently. At some exchanges the funds stay in the trading account the whole time; at others a daily sweep moves your balance into an earn account, and you have to redeem before you can use it.

The short version: of the six exchanges I checked on 12 October 2026, the ones where funds stay in the original account without being moved are OKX Auto Earn+ (VIP 1 and above only) and WEEX Auto Earn. Binance’s flexible balance can be used directly for spot orders, and the part you use is redeemed automatically. Bybit, Bitget and KuCoin subscribe idle balances to flexible products on a daily schedule, so you have to redeem before trading (Bybit lets you swap flexible USDT for BYUSDT to use as margin). Before comparing rates, break the APR on the page down into its conditions: most flexible products use tiered rates, and the high tier covers only the first 200 to 500 USDT. With 10,000 USDT, Bybit’s overall APR is about 2.01%, not the 6.91% on the page.

This article is a summary of public information and is not investment advice. Rates, tiers, eligibility and product rules all change. The figures here are snapshots of official pages or official APIs on the dates shown, not guaranteed returns; check what the exchange shows at the time before you use any product. This site does not give advice on futures or leveraged trading; margin is mentioned only to explain how the funds can be used.

Exchange auto earn compared: eligibility, accounts and trading access

The table below covers each exchange’s feature for putting idle funds to work “automatically”. The focus is where the funds sit and whether you can use them directly when you want to trade (official documentation checked on 12 October 2026):

Exchange Feature Who can use it How auto-subscription works When you want to trade
OKX Auto Earn+ VIP 1 to VIP 9 No transfer: coins in the trading account are lent out directly OKX says use as trading margin is not affected; after you turn it off, transfers work normally
WEEX Auto Earn Users not flagged with a risk status No transfer: available balances in the spot, funding and futures accounts all earn interest Not stated explicitly, but the funds stay in their original account
Binance Simple Earn Flexible + Auto-Subscribe Regular users Moves the spot account balance into flexible products daily at 02:00 and 16:00 (UTC) The flexible balance can be used directly for spot and Convert orders; the part used is redeemed automatically
Bybit Easy Earn Flexible + Auto-Earn Users with standard identity verification Subscribes idle funding account balances to flexible products daily at 10:00 (UTC) Redeem first, or swap flexible USDT for BYUSDT to use as margin
Bitget Simple Earn Flexible + Auto-Subscribe Regular users Subscribes with the available spot account balance daily at 15:00 (UTC+8) Redeem first; funds return to the spot account immediately
KuCoin Savings (flexible) + Auto-Subscribe Regular users Moves the trading or funding account balance into flexible savings daily at 01:00 (UTC) Redeem first

The table below is the earn feature table this site uses for its ratings, generated automatically from a data file. Its “auto earn” column asks whether idle funds can earn and be used for trading at the same time. Bybit’s Auto-Earn subscribes from the funding account, but flexible USDT can be swapped for BYUSDT, which earns while serving as futures margin, similar to Binance’s BFUSD. So that column is ticked (from 13 October 2026). The scoring method is in “Exchange rating methodology”.

How each exchange’s feature works

OKX Auto Earn+: idle funds in a VIP trading account are lent out directly

Auto Earn+ is open only to VIP 1 to VIP 9. According to OKX, assets in the trading account are lent automatically to OKX’s margin borrowing and flexible borrowing businesses, without affecting their use as collateral or trading margin, and without moving them into an earn product.

  • Supported coins: USDT, USDC, SOL, ETH, TRX, DOT, ADA.
  • Cap: the USDT earning limit for a main account is 5 million USDT.
  • Turning it off: you can turn it off at any time, and assets can then be transferred normally.
  • VIP 1 threshold: according to the OKX fee page on 7 October 2026, US$100,000 in assets, or US$1 million in 30-day spot volume or US$5 million in 30-day futures volume. Details are in the “OKX review”.

I am VIP 1 at OKX myself. I turned on Auto Earn+ for USDT on 21 August 2026, and by 7 October it had earned about 317 USDT in total. At the time, the account details page said interest is paid every hour and normal trading is not affected; the screenshot is in the “OKX review”. For me, the benefit is not having to move money between the trading account and the earn account.

The Auto Earn+ help page does not mention a platform cut, and it does not say what happens when the pool is fully lent out. If you are not a VIP, you can use Simple Earn, but you have to move funds into it first. According to the Simple Earn FAQ, earnings are settled hourly and reinvested automatically on the hour, and the platform keeps 15% of the interest.

WEEX Auto Earn: balances in each account earn interest directly, capped at 100,000 USDT

WEEX launched Auto Earn on 1 October 2025, for USDT only. Once it is on, available and frozen balances in the spot and funding accounts, plus the available balance in the futures account (excluding bonuses and trial funds), all count toward the interest-bearing balance. The system takes random snapshots of that balance, and the previous day’s earnings are paid to the funding account at 12:00 (UTC) the next day.

  • Tiered rates: for regular users, 13% on the first 200 USDT and 3.5% on the portion from 200 to 100,000 USDT.
  • New-user rate: applies only if you turn it on within 7 days of completing verification: 100% on the first 100 USDT and 3.5% from 100 to 100,000 USDT. If you turn it on after 7 days, the regular rates apply.
  • Cap: at most 100,000 USDT earns interest; anything above that earns nothing.
  • Rates change: WEEX says the APR floats with the market and may be adjusted at any time.

The announcement does not say where the yield comes from, and it does not state explicitly whether funds that are earning can be traded directly. Since the interest-bearing balance includes the balances in each account, the funds stay in their original account (this is my inference).

Binance: swept into flexible products twice a day, and the flexible balance can be used for spot orders

Binance’s flexible products guide (updated 29 September 2026) covers three points related to trading at any time:

  • Auto-Subscribe: once it is on, the spot account balance of that coin moves into the matching flexible product daily at 02:00 and 16:00 (UTC).
  • Trading directly: the earn account balance can be used directly for spot and Convert trades (app version 2.96.1 or later). Funds are taken from the spot account first, then the funding account, then flexible assets; the part used is redeemed automatically and stops earning interest.
  • As margin: flexible assets can serve as collateral for Binance Flexible Loan. Flexible USDT can also be swapped for LDUSDT and used as margin for USDⓈ-M futures in Multi-Assets Mode; LDUSDT earns only the real-time APR, not the bonus tiered APR.

How interest works: the Real-Time APR accrues every minute and is added directly to the earn account. Some coins also carry a Bonus Tiered APR, calculated from a snapshot of holdings at a random time the previous day, which starts accruing only at 00:00 (UTC) the day after subscription. When I used Binance in the past, I had to move money into the earn account myself; the points above come from the official documentation I checked on 12 October 2026, and I have not used them in practice.

Bybit: auto-subscribes daily at 10:00, and BYUSDT can serve as margin but earns only the base APR

Bybit’s Auto-Earn subscribes idle assets of selected coins in the funding account to Easy Earn Flexible daily at 10:00 (UTC). Each coin has an Auto-Earn limit, and once it is reached, no more funds are subscribed automatically. With Auto-Earn on, earnings are also reinvested automatically.

  • Interest: starts on the next full hour after subscription and is calculated hourly, then paid to the funding account at 00:30 (UTC) the next day. The hour in which you redeem earns no interest.
  • Redemption: flexible products can be redeemed at any time. You can choose to return the principal to the Unified Trading Account (UTA) or the funding account; earnings always go to the funding account.
  • Fees: Bybit says there are no additional fees, and the management fee is already reflected in the APR.
  • Earning while using funds as margin: you can swap flexible USDT for BYUSDT. It can serve as margin only in the UTA’s cross margin and portfolio margin modes, and it cannot be used for spot trading or withdrawn. Swapping in and out may incur a service fee, and BYUSDT earns only the base APR, not the platform’s bonus APR.

More on Bybit’s security and fees is in the “Bybit review”.

Bitget: subscribes with the spot balance daily, with same-day interest for subscriptions before 16:00

With auto-subscribe on, Bitget’s Simple Earn Flexible subscribes the available spot account balance to the matching flexible product. The same page gives two schedules: the step-by-step guide says daily at 15:00 (UTC+8), while the FAQ says twice daily at 03:00 and 15:00 (UTC+8). Go by your account settings.

  • Account: after subscription, funds move from the spot account to the Simple Earn flexible account. The official documentation does not say whether flexible funds can be traded directly.
  • Redemption: there is no lock-up period. Tap “Redeem” and the funds return to the spot account immediately, with no penalty.
  • Interest: subscriptions before 16:00 (UTC+8) earn interest the same day, and interest is paid to the spot account daily at 00:00 (UTC+8). For products that pay hourly, interest starts the next hour.

This page does not mention the source of the yield or a platform cut. More on Bitget’s security and fees is in the “Bitget review”.

KuCoin: moved from the trading or funding account into savings daily at 01:00

With auto-subscribe on, KuCoin Savings moves the matching coin from the trading or funding account into flexible savings daily at 01:00 (UTC). Interest starts at T+1 after subscription, the first payout comes at T+2, and after that interest is paid and compounded daily. The rate is updated every day based on the margin and lending markets.

Breaking “APR” down into conditions: what 1,000, 10,000 and 100,000 USDT actually earn

The most prominent number on a flexible earn page is usually the first tier of a tiered rate or a new-user bonus. Before comparing, I break it down into four conditions: tiers (how many USDT get the high rate), cap (above what amount no interest is paid), new-user limits (how long and how much), and usage limits (for example, Bybit’s BYUSDT and Binance’s LDUSDT do not include bonus APR).

The table below uses official figures from 12 October 2026 to calculate the overall APR for different deposit amounts (amount in each tier × that tier’s APR, summed, then divided by the total amount):

Exchange and product Tiers and cap 1,000 USDT 10,000 USDT 100,000 USDT
Bybit Easy Earn flexible USDT 6.91% up to 200, 1.91% on the rest 2.91% 2.01% 1.92%
WEEX Auto Earn (regular users) 13% up to 200, 3.5% from 200 to 100,000, no interest above 5.40% 3.69% 3.52%
OKX Simple Earn flexible USDT No tiers; lending APR of the latest hour 2.78% 2.78% 2.78% 2.78%

Sources: Bybit’s official Earn API and OKX’s official lending rate API (read on 12 October 2026); WEEX per its official announcement of 1 October 2025, checked on 12 October 2026. The overall APRs are this site’s calculations from the official tiers. Rates change hourly or daily and do not represent future returns.

What the table shows:

  • The high tier is worth a limited amount: however much you deposit, the extra 5 percentage points on Bybit’s first 200 USDT add at most 10 USDT a year; the extra 9.5 percentage points on WEEX’s first 200 USDT add at most 19 USDT a year.
  • The more you deposit, the closer you get to the second-tier rate: with 10,000 USDT, Bybit’s overall APR is about 2.01%, or about 201 USDT a year; at OKX’s 2.78% on the same day, it would be about 278 USDT.
  • Amounts above the cap earn nothing: with 200,000 USDT at WEEX, only the first 100,000 USDT earns interest, and the overall APR drops to about 1.76%.
  • New-user bonuses also have limits and time frames: the 10% shown on OKX’s Simple Earn page on 7 October 2026 was for new users only, limited to 500 USDT and 180 days (see the “OKX review”). At the lending APR of 2.78% on 12 October, this bonus adds at most about 17.8 USDT.

How interest is calculated: what matters when funds move in and out often

Funds kept ready for trading move in and out often, and then the unit in which interest is calculated matters more than the APR (official documentation checked on 12 October 2026):

Exchange When interest starts How often it is calculated Where interest is paid
OKX Simple Earn Interest for the hour funds are lent is paid in the following hour Settled hourly Reinvested automatically on the hour
Binance flexible Bonus tiered APR counts from 00:00 (UTC) the day after subscription Real-time APR accrues every minute; bonus tiered APR uses a random snapshot from the previous day Real-time APR is added directly to the earn account; bonus tiered APR is paid to the spot account between 00:00 and 08:00 (UTC) two days after subscription
Bybit Easy Earn Flexible The next full hour after subscription Calculated hourly, counting only full hours Paid to the funding account at 00:30 (UTC) the next day
Bitget Simple Earn Flexible Same day for subscriptions before 16:00 (UTC+8) Daily Paid to the spot account daily at 00:00 (UTC+8)
KuCoin Savings T+1 Daily First payout at T+2, then daily
WEEX Auto Earn Random snapshot Daily Paid to the funding account at 12:00 (UTC) the next day

My inference: if your funds move between trading and earn every day, products that calculate interest every minute or every hour are less likely to leave you short. With products that calculate daily or use random snapshots, funds that sit in the account for only a few hours may miss that day’s interest.

Auto earn risks: who borrows the funds, and whether redemptions can get stuck

Most of the interest on exchange flexible products comes from lending coins out. According to each exchange’s official documentation:

  • Lent to margin traders and borrowers: OKX Auto Earn+ and Simple Earn lend to its margin borrowing and flexible borrowing businesses. Binance says the yield comes from lending to other users through its Margin and Loan products. KuCoin says the rate is set by the margin and lending markets. Bybit says flexible yield comes from lending and other businesses.
  • Redemptions may be restricted when everything is lent out: OKX says that when a coin’s pool is fully lent out, redemptions may be temporarily restricted, including temporary limits or suspension, reviewed every hour. Binance says each flexible product has a daily redemption quota that may be adjusted at any time; in extreme markets or when many users redeem at once, redemptions may be delayed until borrowers repay or other users deposit, and it states that Binance is not responsible for losses caused by redemption delays.
  • A higher APR usually means more is lent out: Binance says a higher APR generally means a higher share of the pool is lent out. My inference: when rates are unusually high is also when redemptions are most likely to queue.
  • Risk from the exchange itself: earn assets are still held on the exchange, so they are affected if the exchange runs into trouble. How much users got back after exchange failures is covered in the “Centralized exchange incident timeline”.

For the extra layers of risk that idle USDT in exchange earn takes on compared with short-term Treasury ETFs, Aave and Bitfinex lending, see “Where to park idle USD and USDT”. To pick an exchange by what you do most, see “Choosing a crypto exchange by need”.

How to choose: first decide whether the funds need to be available at any time

  1. Funds you keep ready to trade: first check whether the funds need to be moved. OKX Auto Earn+ (VIP 1 and above) and WEEX Auto Earn need no transfer, and Binance’s flexible balance can be used directly for spot orders. Products you must redeem first add a step before each trade.
  2. More than a few hundred USDT: compare the second-tier rate and the cap, not the first tier. Based on the table above, with 10,000 USDT the high tier raises the overall APR by only about 0.1 (Bybit) to 0.19 percentage points (WEEX).
  3. Funds that move in and out often: choose products that calculate interest every minute or every hour.
  4. Funds you won’t touch for a long time: they do not have to sit on an exchange. Read “Where to park idle USD and USDT” first and compare how much more you earn for each extra layer of risk.

Invitation codes for each exchange

Below are the invitation codes for the international exchanges mentioned in this article. Signing up with an invitation code gives you the exchange’s official fee discount (for Bybit, an official sign-up offer); the percentage is as shown in each box. The fee discount and the earn rate are two separate things, so compare the earn rules and security against the conditions above before deciding whether to sign up.

FAQ

Can I trade with money that is in an exchange's auto earn?

It depends on the exchange. With OKX Auto Earn+ the assets stay in the trading account, and OKX says this does not affect their use as trading margin. Binance's flexible balance can be used directly for spot and Convert trades; the part you use is redeemed automatically and stops earning interest. Bybit and Bitget flexible products must first be redeemed to the account you trade from (Bybit also lets you swap flexible USDT for BYUSDT to use as margin). This reflects the official documentation on 12 October 2026.

Who can use OKX Auto Earn+?

Only VIP 1 to VIP 9. According to the official fee page on 7 October 2026, you reach VIP 1 with US$100,000 in assets, or with US$1 million in 30-day spot volume or US$5 million in 30-day futures volume. Non-VIP users can use Simple Earn, but they have to move funds into it first.

Why don't I actually get the high APR shown on flexible earn pages?

Because that figure is usually the first tier of a tiered rate or a new-user bonus. For example, on 12 October 2026 Bybit's flexible USDT paid 6.91% on the first 200 USDT and 1.91% on the rest, so 10,000 USDT earned an overall APR of only about 2.01%.

How is interest calculated in exchange auto earn?

Each exchange does it differently. Binance's real-time APR accrues every minute. Bybit calculates hourly and pays at 00:30 (UTC) the next day to the funding account. Bitget starts interest the same day for subscriptions before 16:00 (UTC+8) and pays daily at 00:00 (UTC+8). KuCoin starts interest at T+1 after subscription.

Can I always redeem exchange flexible earn at any time?

Not always. OKX says redemptions of a coin may be temporarily restricted when its pool is fully lent out. Binance says each flexible product has a daily redemption quota, which recovers only when borrowers repay or other users deposit. The yield comes from lending coins to users who borrow and trade on margin, so this can happen when a high share of the pool is lent out.

Do exchanges take a cut of auto earn interest?

OKX Simple Earn publicly keeps 15% of the interest, and Bybit says its management fee is already reflected in the APR shown. The flexible earn pages of Binance, Bitget, KuCoin and WEEX that I checked on 12 October 2026 did not state a percentage.
